Alpro Coconut Original & Coconut Chocolate

Hey everyone :)

So I'm all for 'trying something new' - within reason ... Dave keeps telling me I should try sushi ... but he doesn't seem to grasp the 'I don't like fish' reply I give him every time!

I was wandering through Asda - yes I take random trips to Asda late at night ... and something caught my eye ... the 'new' sign and below it these little things:

They are what I'd call 'lunchpack' sizes.

Obviously the large normal carton size has been available for a couple of months now I believe but Alpro have brought out little ones to drink on the go I assume.

There are two:

Alpro Coconut Chocolate

Unless you've been hiding under a rock (maybe you have) but coconut as an alternative is becoming more popular, actually anything that is 'dairy-alternative' is becoming popular. You know like soya or almond ... and now coconut.

There are lots of benefits to this coconut drink - it's 100% plant based (made from real coconuts), there are no added sugars only the natural occurring sugars, it's lactose free, low in calories and a source of vitamin B12 which helps reduce tiredness and fatigue.

Those benefits aside - the main benefit would be that anyone that's lactose intolerant can use this. It can be used exactly the same way as any milk - in cereals, drinks and smoothies.

The simplify the ingredients as there are a few of those odd ones - it's basically the flesh of the coconut (so that white stuff inside) some rice and water (and then some stabilisers etc but ignore those). ((with the chocolate one there is chocolate flavouring obviously))

Dave and myself tried both ... on their own we probably wounldn't drink them. In smoothies and milkshakes they tasted much better as there were other flavours in the mix. If we have to choose we'd both go with the chocolate one over the original.

There are lots of recipes available on Alpro's website - which you can check out HERE. I think they have been submitted by people who've bought the product and experimented which is great! Be sure to let me know if you make anything in the comments below.

You can also find out more information on the Coconut Original HERE and the Coconut Chocolate HERE.
