November Playlist

Hey everyone :)

november playlist shoutjohn

It's that time of the month again where I share the music I've been listening to non stop!

There are some really catchy tunes out this month ... my playlist is quite small compared to previous months but its just because I keep listening to all these songs on repeat.

Most of them you will notice are in the Top 40 Charts apart from a couple. I have been listening to Cheryl's new album which is quite catchy :) I've got a couple of her songs in my playlist this month too :)

1. I Don't Care by Cheryl
2. Outside by Calvin Harris ft Ellie Goulding
3. All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor
4. Ugly Heart by G.R.L
5. T.I.N.A by Fuse Odg
6. Superheroes by The Script
7. Only Human by Cheryl
8. Real Love by Clean Bandit
9. Run by Nicole Scherzinger
10. I'm an Albatraoz by AronChupa
11. Break Free by Ariana Grande
12. Steal My Girl by One Direction

Favourites ...

I'm loving Break Free by Ariana Grande at the moment - I know the song has been out a while now ... maybe I'm a bit late but its so catchy. This is defo a song I can listen to on repeat!

I'm really into Only Human by Cheryl - she's not released the song as a single (I don't know if she will) but its on her new album and I really like it.

Nicole Scherzinger was on X-Factor a couple of weeks ago and sang her new single: 'Run' - it's a bit different to her normal bouncy, fast beat music she does. It's good though.

I remember when I first heard Outside I was convinced it was Ellie Goulding's voice but I saw that on the album cover it just showed Calvin Harris' name so I forgot about it. Then I saw it was her and gave myself a pat on the back cos I'm good at remembering voices! I really like Ellie Goulding and I think compared to her own music - this collab is a change, a good change though and its really catchy - like fast-beat-violin music.

That's all my favs for this month guys - make sure and check back next Month for an extra special Christmas Playlist :) Can't believe it's nearly Christmas time!

Liebster Award: Take 2

Hey everyone :)

liebster award shoutjohn

I managed to get nominated for another Liebster Award (so I must be doing something right)

My second nomination comes from Ali @ Thirty and a Half  << you can check her blog out by clicking her name/blog :)

The rules of the award are:

> answer the 11 questions that the person that nominated you gave you
> list 11 facts about yourself
> nominate 11 bloggers with followers under 200 (I'll use Bloglovin)
> give your nominees 11 questions to answer

So ... the questions that Ali gave me:

1. Why did you decide to start blogging?
I remember watching Vampire Diaries and Elena kept a 'journal' and I thought that was a great idea. Something I could write in - my thoughts, what I was doing, what was going on around me, my relationship etc ... It lasted a few months, then I remember opening it a year later having found the book at the bottom of a drawer and thinking 'well that lasted long' ... I then was watching one of Joey Graceffa's YouTube videos and he was in Brighton with Zoe Sugg (aka Zoella) and I checked our her videos and saw she had a blog ... so I read through her first few posts she ever did and thought 'hey maybe I should give it a go' and here we are now ... a few months later :)

2. What is the meaning behind your blog?
I might have answered this in the first question ... I'm really bad at rambling on about something and not actually answering the question asked. The meaning behind my blog ... I don't think there is a meaning behind it. It's just somewhere I can express what I'm doing or what I've baked or what 'beauty product' I bought last week.

3. What do you do for fun?
I'm a bit of a gamer - while I was at University most of my time was spent on WOW (World of Warcraft) which apparently if you say that to anyone they instantly say 'geek' or 'wow your hardcore' I gave that a rest after two years. Lately I've been into LOL (League of Legends), Minecraft PC Edition (where I have my own server I can play on) and lately I'm hooked on the new game from Bungie called Destiny.

Obviously I'm not a vampire and don't hide inside all the time - I also like to hang with friends go to TopGolf, chill in a pub or go grab some food. I spend alot of time with my other half and we go places most weekends and hang out doing different things.

4. What is your favourite movie or TV show?
I hate this question. I refuse to just pick one! I wasn't watching anything as all the television shows I watch were on a season break but they're all back on now ... so I'm currently loving:

> Once Upon a Time
> Family Guy
> Revenge
> The Original
> 2 Broke Girls
> Grey's Anatomy
> The Big Bang Theory
> The Vampire Diaries
> How to get away with Murder
> Downton Abbey
> Doctor Who

It's alot I know ... but I love them all ...

5. Who is the person that inspires you the most?
I'm terrible with these kinds of questions. Thinking from the top of my head and because Taylor Swift is playing in the background - I will take a chance and say that Taylor Swift does inspire me - mainly because she is very grown up for her age and is very aware of what is going on in the world and fights certain causes. Her music is also amazing :D

6. Who is your celebrity crush?
I don't really have a specific person - but as I'm really into the television programme 'Revenge' at the moment - Daniel Greyson (aka Josh Bowman) is pretty hot - in that kind of smoldering, 'I don't care' attitude :) Google him if you don't know who I'm talking about!!

7. Do you prefer Apple or PC/Android?
I used to be a strictly-PC guy ... but for Christmas last year Apple were doing a 0% finance on MacBook for £1090 and I couldn't resist. I just finished paying the last payment last month and the laptop is all mine now :) Macs are the most amazing'est (is that a word) things on this earth! I'd never go back to a PC (apart from when I'm at work lol).

8. What is your favourite holiday and why?
Would you believe I've only ever been on two holidays abroad which were to Rome and Spain. I didn't have any holidays this year as I've been really busy. Other than that I had the family holidays to Blackpool and some holiday parks. My favourite probably had to be Spain as it was with my friends and we were in my friends family's villa and it was great fun. We did a few tourist-sight-seeing things and got drunk, chilled out in the pool and lounged on the beach - what more do you want a holiday to be??

9. What is your dream vacation?
I've always wanted to visit New York or San Francisco near Christmas time - so that is my aim for next year. I got told by several people to 'start saving now' lol

10. What is the best blogging advice you have received?
Be Truthful, Be Honest, Be Yourself << Can't remember where I read that or who told me that but I remember it ... I think alot of bloggers live by this :)

11. When do you start decorating/preparing for Christmas?
Some people might kill me for saying this but probably around the start/finish of Halloween. Decorating would probably be the last week of November I think. I started looking for Christmas present ideas around October I think this year.

11 facts about me:

1. I'm Scottish living in England
2. I'm a big Taylor Swift fan
3. I love the month December - my birthday, winter, christmas and my anniversary with my other half!
4. I love my MacBook, my camera, my iPhone and my car.
5. I hate that I'm an impulse buyer lol
6. I love to sleep ... zzzzzzzz
7. I'm very picky with certain things - like where to eat, what to wear, what to do ...
8. I love long showers (where I come out like a shrivelled plum)
9. I love Starbucks
10. I'm a big tea drinker too
11. I love cuddly toys (even though I'm 23, nearly 24 lol)

Now to nominate some people ... I'm not bothering with people less that 200 as I don't think we should be focusing on the numbers but the content of the blogs and these are some of the blogs I love to read before bed or when I have a spare 10 minutes at work:

1. Beckyboop
2. I Write About You
3. Queen of Sparkles
4. Balloon's Life
5. Louise Does Life
6. Good Girl Gone Brum
7. Jess About Average
8. It's a Bug's Life
9. A Little Bit Of That
10. The Beauty Notes
11. A Girl From Glasgow

Now the 11 questions:

1. My blog is a mixture of everything. But if you had to choose one topic for your blog forever - what would it be?
2. What was the last lie you told?
3. What question do you hate to answer?
4. Which of the four seasons do you love?
5. What cheers you up?
6. Where is your quiet place? (where you go to think or be alone)
7. What do you value most in a relationship?
8. What is the most played song you listen to?
9. If you could choose to stay a certain age forever, what age would it be?
10. At what age would you say - 'you grew up'?
11. Do you think 'everything happens for a reason'?

Apologies if some of you have already been nominated or have gotten the award already.

I'll email/comment/tweet you guys to let you know I've nominated you if you don't see this.

Have fun!

Cooking: Bacon & Cheese Turnovers

Hey everyone :)

Hope you all had a great weekend? I worked Saturday and then chilled out on Sunday watching Netflix for most of the day and then went food shopping << very exciting ... not!

Occasionally my work colleagues and I get some food from a local bakery and they have these amazing bacon and cheese turnovers so I thought I would have a go at making them myself.

So you will need:

ingredients for bacon and cheese turnovers

> puff pastry - you can either make your own or cheat and buy store bought like I did
> bacon - buy whatever you like - streaky, smoked, unsmoked, medallions
> cheese - again mild, mature, medium ... whatever you like

I checked out a few recipes online and some people do like to add a slice of tomato - entirely up to you! Some even put a little spread of mustard on the pastry underneath the bacon - you can try that if you want.

Anyway on with the recipe ...

1. If you have store-bought puff pastry - open up the box, take it out, unroll it and lay it flat on the counter top.

1a. If you have made your own - roll out on the counter top until 1cm thick - try and go for a square or rectangle shape as you'll be cutting squares.

cutting pastry squares

2. Using a knife - lightly mark the pastry into sqaures as a guide - once your happy that they are all the same shape use the knife to cut the pastry.

cooking bacon

3. Pop the bacon into a frying pan or under the grill and cook.

4. Place the bacon onto the middle of the pastry square, sprinkle some cheese on top and then grab the two opposite corners of the pastry and bring to the middle and squeeze to keep it together. Do this to them all until finished.

4b. (optional) this would be when you can pop some mustard underneath the bacon or when you add a slice of tomato - as I said I'm not keen on either so I wouldn't do this step.

5. Crack an egg into a cup and add a little milk to create a wash and using a pastry brush brush over the top of all the turnovers - this will give them a brown-golden colour once cooked.

(I actually forgot this step which is why my pastry looks quite pale - they should normally come out a golden brown colour)

5b. (optional) again this is an optional step - but some recipes call for additional cheese on top of the closed turnover. I missed this step as I'm not a fan of too much cheese.

6. You should pre-heat the oven to 180°C and pop the turnovers into the oven - they normally take around 10 minutes - the bacon is already cooked so you just need the puff pastry to cook and the cheese to melt - so after 10 minutes check to make sure they are okay and leave for a further 5 minutes if required.

7. Once done take out the oven and plate onto a serving plate or let cool and put into an airtight box.

Dessert: Eton Mess

Hey everyone :)

Got a simple quick Summer recipe I made that I never got round to posting during the Summer.

eton mess shoutjohn

It's a really simple recipe that originates from the 19th century. Named 'Eton' because the dish was served at Eton College's annual cricket game each year, and mess because of the appearance of the dish.

On with the recipe ... You will need:

> meringue (either make them yourself, or buy some store-bought ones)
> a punnet of raspberries
> a tub of whipping cream
> some caster sugar
> a little water
> some dishes to put them in (wines glasses, ramekins, bowls, whatever really)

1. Put the meringues into a bowl and crush them leave a few big bits and a few small bits - don't crush them into dust. Leave to 1 side.
2. Either with a food mixer or a hand whisk - whisk the whipping cream until its think and peaky. I add some caster sugar to mine to give it a sweet taste. This is optional - some people don't like their whipped cream sweet (my mother being one). Set to 1 side.
3. This is another completely optional step. If your a kid making this - seek adult help. Pop 1/4 of the raspberries in a small pot, sprinkle some sugar on top and add a couple tablespoons of water and simmer over a low heat. Using a wooden spoon just mix until the sugar has melted and the raspberries have softened. Pop into a blender and blend until smooth. Set aside.
4. Get whatever you are putting your eton mess into and with the 4 ingredients (crushed meringue, raspberry puree, whole raspberries and the cream) started layering until you run out. You should end up with something like my picture.

Hope you enjoy the recipe.

The Writing Process Tag

Hey everyone :)

It still feels odd that I'm not blogging everyday! I feel out of touch with the blogging community.

I'm hoping someone maybe Helene (hint, hint) might do  Blogmas 2014 lol :D

I was very busy last week as it was my first week back after my holiday and it was a hectic week! Obviously due to my work's social media policy I won't ramble on about all the issues but lets just say by Friday I wanted to pull all my hair out and jump of a cliff! I was glad of the weekend and a couple of days off.

Anyway enough about that ... For some reason Twitter did not tell me about a notification I received last Thursday (so I apologise for the lateness of this blog/tag) I just happened to be scrolling through my feed and saw the tweet from Becky. So Becky (you can check her blog out here) has tagged me to do the 'Writing Process Tag' - thanks for that :D

Now luckily I have been to University and so I'm familiar (not too familiar) with the writing process and what it means. So I feel I'm off to a good start. It still didn't stop me from googling the term 'writing process' though. (At least I'm being honest with you guys).

From what I've gathered so far - for this tag there are four questions - so I'll do my best to answer them:

1. What I'm working on ...

Does this question have a simple answer? It really depends on a few things. If my life (work/social) are quiet then I spend a great deal of time on my blog and I plan my blogs, and work out when I'll post them and brainstorm ideas for what I can do later on in the month. But if work is busy or I have many plans during the week while I am off then I don't tend to blog much (which I think is a shame cos I feel like I have made a commitment to blog and I shouldn't slack off).

To answer the question simply. I'm currently working on a few things. I was trying to do a blog serious on healthy eating ... I'm still writing part 3 - it's taking longer than I thought. Then I have the smaller posts I do about reviews and things then I have the idea blogs which sit in the back burner and haven't made it to the 'start writing that blog post' pile yet.

2. How does my work differ from others of its genre ...

Tricky question ... I suppose I could start with - I'm a guy :P who blogs about everything and anything. I knit (very girly I know), I use girly beauty products to see if they are good for guys, I buy girly magazines to keep up with changing fashions and whats trending. I like to put my own spin on things. I always find it funny as I feel maybe some girl is reading my blog a million miles away and cringing because I'm using the wrong terminology or I'm doing something - maybe she does all the time - the wrong way. Lastly their my opinions which I think makes my work different. It's not like I've gone onto another blog and copied it and then blogged about the same thing.

3. Why do I write ...

The main reason - because I enjoy doing it. I find it really enjoyable to research, write up drafts, re-write, proof read and then post a post on my blog. It's like being back in English class at school. I also feel that because I read other people's blogs and take their information away with me - that I should give back something to the blogging community and that comes in the form of my blog :)

4. How does my writing process work ...

It depends how I feel about a particular product or whatever I am writing about. If its something I feel strongly about I can write the post in a day and edit it, and post. On some posts I have spent nearly a month preparing them either due to the length of information or because it involved me testing a product for a certain amount of time so I could give the best results about it. I then have some posts that are ongoing or that I write part of, then throw it on the back-burner and leave it for a few weeks.

I haven't had a chance to nominate/choose anyone for the post so I choose anyone that wants to do it :)

Hope you all enjoyed the post and again - sorry for taking sooooooo long to post it.

LUSH: Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub

I was in Lush a couple of weeks ago in Milton Keynes and I picked up this amazing shower scrub. Check out their twitter here: @Lush_MK

lush rub rub rub scrub

It's called the Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub and costs £8.50 for a pot (330g). Some people may think this is a tad expensive - but for a product that freshly made with natural ingredients it's well worth it.

Lush are known for their stand against animal testing and so all of their products are not tested on animals and they also check that anyone they buy anything from (ie their suppliers) do not test on animals either.

Lush also use natural ingredients in all their products as well as a few safe synthetic ingredients. All their products are handmade and you always get a little sticker on the pot or product packaging to say who made it and when it was made. Which I think is quite cool.

Anyway enough background information and back to the product. I ended up in Lush and I knew I shouldn't have because I always go crazy when I'm in shops like these. I even spied some birthday presents when I was in there ... so I know I'm going to go back at some point.

What I also like about Lush is the friendliness of the staff. I have to admit every Lush shop I've been in ... the staff have been very friendly and always offer to help if you need it. The Milton Keynes' store was no exception. I'm bad with names but we were greeted at the front door by one girl. Then as I headed to the back of the shop - a cute guy (shhh don't tell my otherhalf) asked us if we needed anything. As I moved further into the shop so I could find the scrub another girl at the counter popped her head round and asked if I needed anything. I know that some people always complain that they hate getting bothered by staff but I love it ... as it makes you feel like they're actually trying to help you and get you what you want.

I've realised I've just rambled on for a paragraph about the staff ... this was supposed to be a short post.

rub rub rub scrub

The product is blue in colour as you can see above. It's very soft for a scrub and is very salty (I got some in my mouth by mistake).

The scrub can be used before or after you get in the shower. I prefer to use it while I'm in the shower. I just get myself wet, move the shower off me and apply all over my body, scrubbing a little harder on those problem area such as my elbows or my heels.

You can also use it on your hair to give it some shine and volume. The sea salt in the scrub is really good for your scalp and the lemon juice gives your hair a nice shine.

The scrub I thought is very runny when in the tub, but once applied (as you can see below) it does thicken up and clings to your skin.

rub rub rub scrub

All in all a good product of Lush and one that I will definitely buy again. Its a product that you can use for your body or your hair which is a big plus!

Let me know if your a fan our Lush products and if I should try any :)

Metcalfe's Skinny Topcorn

popcorn, topcorn

Have you ever had some popcorn ... and really enjoyed it ...

Well you've never tasted Metcalfe's Skinny Topcorn then ... as currently that is all I can eat! To hell (excuse my language) with all the other popcorns I've ever ate as this company beats them all!

I was in Milton Keynes SnoZone (Tweet them here: @SnozoneMKa few weeks ago with a friend and we decided to stop and grab a coffee and a snack. We ended up with a couple bags of Chocolate Crackle Topcorn by Metcalfe's and it was amazing. It was popcorn but drizzled with a crunchy chocolate-caramel glaze!

For some people its quite odd to grasp the idea that popcorn doesn't have to be just salty or just sweet and that you can get lots more flavours now - compared to a couple of years ago. I will admit I was rather reluctant when I first started seeing different flavoured popcorns on the shelves to even try them as salted popcorn is/was my favourite and that's what I'd grown up with.

We enjoyed the popcorn that much that I sought our their website and purchased a mixed box of their different flavours and a further box of 12 Chocolate Crackle flavour.

I ordered the multi-flavoured box which came with:

> Clic Sargent Salt x2
> Sweet 'n Salt x2
> Sweet Cinnamon Spice x2
> Wasabi Glaze x2
> Heat 'n Sweet x2
> Chocolate Crackle x2

We also did order a 12 pack case of the Chocolate Crackle - but can't find it on their website at the moment (possibly out of stock).

popcorn metcalfes skinny topcorn

Clic Sargent Salt
Very salty - however I love salty food so really enjoyed this. I would say some people might find it too salty but maybe not ... each to their own.

Sweet 'n Salt
I like the idea of this flavour - you get a bit of salt, then a bit of sweet. It reminds me sometimes when your at the cinema and you get a bit of sweet in your salty popcorn by mistake.

Sweet Cinnamon Spice
The cinnamon reminds me of Christmas and the popcorn was quite sweet - I enjoyed the popcorn!

Wasabi Glaze
I wasn't too sure about this flavour - it's like mustard but quite hot.

Heat 'n Sweet
This one was really hot too and it kept catching the back of my throat when I ate it. However that didn't stop me, however not my favourite.

Chocolate Crackle
By far my most favourite - the first one I tried and I'm glad I did - its amazing! Love the chocolate and the crunch you get when you eat it.

They also have a range of corners and corncakes which you should also check out!

You can check out their website here: http://metcalfesskinny.com/ or send them a tweet: @MetcalfesSkinny.

iPhone 6

Here it is ... taaaaaa daaaaaaa

iphone 6 case white shoutjohn

For those of you who follow my blog and read everything I ramble on about - you will know that my upgrade for my phone was due. I am/was with O2 however their signal strength over the past year has gotten worse and so I decided to move to Vodafone whose signal strength is amazing ... well so far. I've only had the phone a couple of week (but no issues yet).

I realise that there is probably thousands and thousands of reviews on the iPhone 6 but I don't care. This is my review and as I've mentioned before - I'll look back on these blog posts in a couple of years and be like 'oh yeah I forgot that' :)

Anyway on with the review...

Once you open the box ... you are greeted with the phone on top. Bear in mind I had already opened and taken the plastic from the top of the phone so there is normally a plastic cover around the phone. Also be careful when opening the box and ensure you don't shake or yank the lid off - I've seen videos on YouTube where some people are that excited they drop the phone out the box onto the pavement and it shatters - they only just bought the phone! I would cry!

iphone 6 open box

Underneath the phone ... we have the usual accessories - new headphones (love these), new USB cable and UK plug. You also get the little pack with the key for the sim card and some information about the iPhone and the usual apple stickers.

I thought I'd pop some pictures of the phone itself ...

Side view ... as you can see the power button is on the side now (due to the size of the phone you can't really reach the top anymore. The sim card slot is also located here like before (so no change there).

Another side and back view ... as you can see we have the camera and flash like similar iPhone cameras however the camera on the iPhone 6 and (plus) comes out of the phone slightly. Which means the phone doesn't lay flat when on the table.

Sorry about the tardyness quality of the photos and the lighting. I had just gotten the phone and was more excited playing and using it than taking pictures.

Obviously the iPhone 6 comes with iOS8 (I had to update as there had been two releases since the phone was made (no biggy). So if you had/have already updated your iPhone to the new operating system then this will be no different for you.

Overall really happy with the phone. I feel now that I've used it for a couple of weeks - I can definetly say that the battery life has improved drastically. My phone lasts more than two days now and that is using Spofity most of the day, watching several YouTube videos, texting on iMessage and Whatsapp and checking the usual social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr etc etc).

Hope you enjoyed the post and video :) Let me know what you think!

October Favourites

Hey everyone :)

Hope you are all well. Can you believe we are at the end of October already. Next thing we know it will be New Year (but I'm not wishing the year away). I hope it goes slow. It's my first year driving in Winter and apparently Britain is in for the worst winter ever (not holding my breath though as the weather people are normally wrong).

It's the end of the month (and you know what that means) OCTOBER FAVOURITES! YAY!

october favourites john agnew

1. The Dairy Collective: Spiced Pumpkin Live Gourmet Yoghurt - I think I may have raved about this on Twitter & Instagram but I can't get enough of it and unfortunately its Limited Edition and a seasonal item so it's probably gone now and I've just finished another tub off.

2. Autumn - Not really a favourite that I can use or have used but it's a season: Autumn. It's probably my second favourite season. I love going walks and seeing all the trees and their different shades of leaves (going from green to golden yellow and then brown) before falling to the ground and covering the grass like a sea of brown water (great simile eh?!).

3. Lush: Snow Fairy Shower Gel - Another seasonal item and not Autumn (it's a Christmas Limited Edition item) I know your probably gasping that I dare mention Christmas and it's not even Halloween yet. I'm sorry! But I love Christmas and Winter so much! I got this when I ordered my Lush box a month or so ago. It smells like candy floss and is so sweet. Some people might say too sweet but I love it. The smell also lasts for ages. I used it on Monday night and my bathroom still smells of it the next day around 6pm - its amazing stuff.

4. Nivea Soft Hand Cream  - I got this as a free sample from Nivea and used it for a week or so then somehow managed to put the tub through my washing machine. #sadface I don't know if you can buy the smaller tubs in shops but I know you can get a larger tub in Tesco at the moment (it's on special for £2.39 down from £4.50). The link will take you to a tube of the same product from Boots if your interested and want to check it out.

5. Glade Apple Cinnamon Candle - I got this candle in my local corner shop and loved it. As its getting nearer Christmas and the days are getting darker quicker. It's nice to put on a candle and leave it burning away in the corner. I also feel like it makes the room more cosier and homely. The smell is also very Christmasy (I know shoot me again for mentioning Christmas) but you can also associate the Apples with Halloween so its all good.

6. Selfie  - ABC premiered a show called 'Selfie' and as you can guess is basically about a social media obsessed girl who has more 'followers' on social networks that actual real friends. The comedy/sit-com is about how Eliza (the main character, you'll recognise her from Doctor Who as Amy Pond) takes herself away from the digital world and connects with real people in her day-to-day life normally with funny or embarrassing consequences. I enjoy the show - its only about 25 mins long each week. However I think from what I read on a few websites - ratings aren't doing so well and they don't expect it to be renewed for another season. But we'll wait and see. Defo worth a watch - even just watch the first episode and see what you think.

That's all my favourites for this month - quite a short and simple blog this month as I didn't want to talk/type too much. Let me know if you've tried any of the above or if you have similar interests - I'm always happy to meet people who like the same things as me.

Happy Blogging!
